Proud moment for Bhandarys

It’s a moment of pride and honour for all Bhandarys across the world. Our man Ajoy (Ajay) Kumar, a Bhandary, has been appointed as the Jharkhand Congress president. In fact, if we look around, we can find n number of achievers, who are Bhandarys. Take any field- Sports, politics, education, science and technology – Bhandarys are everywhere! Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar’s induction has only added a feather to the cap. Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar, a native of Dakshina Kannada district, is a proud Bhandary. A former Lok Sabha MP, Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar has been selected as the Jharkhand Congress president, making all our hearts swell in pride.

Small town boy’s big achievement

Ajoy(Ajay) is originally from Moilottu of Mulki, Mangaluru. His parents- Sanjeeva Bhandary from Mulky and Vatsala Bhandary from Maroli. Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar completed his studies at the Hyderabad Public School. He is married to Rina Arya and has two children. He also has a brother – Ashwin

Encounter specialist

Ajoy(Ajay) completed MBBS in 1985 at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical and Research Institute, Puducherry. Because of his passion towards Police career, he started his service as an IPS officer in 1986. The same year, he received an award from the President of India. From 1994 to 1996, he functioned as SP. Recognizing his daring achievements, media called him an encounter specialist.

Total crime control

Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar served as SP in Patna city before being appointed as the SP of Jamshedpur. In the 1990s, Jamshedpur was ruled by the ‘local goons’ and the crime peaked in the city. Looking at this, Bihar’s Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav appointed Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar as the city SP on the request of  J. J. Irani, MD of Tata Steel. Within a short period SP Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar succeeded in controlling and reducing the crime rate in Jamshedpur.

The big leap

Ajoy(Ajay), who had a special interest in politics, retired from the police service in 1994 and entered politics, after being appointed as the senior executive in Tata Motors. He was elected as the 15th Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Jamshedpur LokSabha constituency. He was elected from Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) in the by-election of 2011, where he won by 1.55 lakh votes against BJP’s Dinesh Goswami. He contested in the election from the party floated by former chief minister of Jharkhand Babulal Marandi JVM.

Entry to Congress

Ajoy(Ajay) Kumar, who was successful in politics, joined Indian National Congress in 2014. Then he was  appointed as Congress spokesperson in 2014 and as CLP member. Today, he has made his parents, community and the country very proud with all the achievements.
